6 months ago, Bethany Simpson had a completely different idea for where her life was headed. A senior pursuing BFA musical theatre at Columbia College in Chicago, she had plans to graduate, move to New York City, and begin a life of endless auditioning. That all changed the second she decided to click “download” on a widely-known app called Tiktok.
Bethany Simpson is an up-and-coming social media influencer and Tiktok star with a following of more than 425,000 on the app. She posted her first video back in early April as a way to pass the time in quarantine, and has not missed a day of posting since. From then to now, she has accumulated nearly 10 million likes on her content.
Something that sets Bethany apart from most Tiktok creators is that she’s constantly rebranding and shifting her content based on the interests of her followers. Her first viral video was a Kissing Booth drinking game, followed by Harry Potter themed-discussions, so she created videos similar to those in order to see major growth in her account. When she dyed her hair blue, she saw a major spike in following when Tiktok and Instagram users began to compare her to Victorious character Jade West. That then became her new niche.
Now that she has a more significant following, she creates videos that focus more on her own interests: musical theatre (singing, acting, and dance). But she makes sure to sprinkle in some drinking games or Jade West content every once in a while for her fans who may be feeling a bit nostalgic.
Due to her recent Tiktok milestones video, she dyed her hair purple on a 3-hour livestream for an overall audience of over 11,000 people as a result of achieving 400k. According to the video, Bethany Simpson will be releasing a merch line at her next milestone of a half of a million followers.
