Meet Brett Conti, and social media influencer and founder of Fortune Skateboards. We were able to sit with him for a short while to discuss the origins of his brand.
Brett Conti: From Skater to Entrepreneur
Brett started Fortune Skateboards during an unfortunate event in his life. When he tore a ligament in his leg, he spent his recovery time sewing clothes in his college dorm room. He began making beanies, hats, and pocket tees and sold them around the campus. This was the beginning of Fortune NY.
Fortune began to work its way to the top. It began stocking the shelves of small shops and even Zumiez, a popular lifestyle brand that carries various skate products. For him, this is his brand’s biggest accomplishment so far. The thought of a big skating brand carrying his product is thrilling (and rightfully so).
Curious why it was called Fortune? It’s because the profits made by Brett were used in putting the homeless in warm motels during the cold winter nights. Fortune Skateboard’s main philosophy is giving back to the “less fortunate”.
How is Fortune Right Now?
Without a doubt, all businesses have been affected by the pandemic in one way or another. This includes Fortune NY. However, Brett isn’t the quitting type. We asked him what’s the status of his brand amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Here’s what he has to say:
“For the retail business, it took a hit but our online store skyrocketed. As well as my youtube views hit record numbers due to so many people being under quarantine.”
Influencer
Alongside being an entrepreneur, Brett is a YouTuber! There, he shares his journey as a skater-turned-entrepreneur. He wishes to showcase others that everything he achieves in life is applicable to everyone.
On top of entrepreneur-centered content and skating, he also travels around the world! He features the diverse culture and cuisine each country has to offer. So far, his most-viewed YouTube video is his $100 challenge in Vietnam. Watch it here:
We asked Brett what he loves about being an entrepreneur. If you’re an avid reader of our articles, you know what his answer could be. Brett explained his daily routine:
“I wake up, do whatever I want. Every single day.. I just have to film it for YouTube, haha.”
